"You are not lazy, unmotivated or stuck. After years of living in survival mode you are exhausted.
There is a difference."
"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you"
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a proven method of alleviating distress and creating change. CBT is based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, what we do and how our bodies feel are all connected. If we change one we can change all the others. When we're struggling we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel. CBT helps us to notice and change those paterns so we can feel better
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
CFT is a psychological therapy that combines the insights of CBT, mindfulness, evolutionary psychology and modern neuroscience to enable the purposeful cultivation of compassion, the skills and strengths that flow from it, and how to use these to effectively reduce suffering. CFT pays particular attention to dealing with shame, self-criticism, and toxic perfectionism.
Short Term Therapies
Several powerful short term therapies exist to help people through challenges in their life. I am an experienced practitioner of these, including Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
ACT is a therapy to help people learn strategies to live life more in the present, more focused on important values and goals, and less focused on painful thoughts, feelings and experiences. ACT teaches people how to engage with and overcome painful thoughts and feelings through acceptance and mindfulness techniques, to develop self-compassion and flexibility, and to build life-enhancing patterns of behaviour
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a unique, powerful therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly.
EMDR is best known for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), for which it is recognised internationally as among the most powerful treatments of this condition. It can also help with a range of difficulties from phobia, chronic pain to addiction and more.
I blend the above therapies with Systemic therapy to meet the needs of couples in distress. Systemic therapy gives both members of the couple the chance to explore their feelings and say what they think in a safe, non-judgmental environment. Couples therapy seeks to identify deeply entrenched patterns within an individual's relationship and the process helps to uncover the ways in which partners communicate and behave, based on beliefs about their respective roles, to unlock difficulties in relationships.
